optomcas
The Association of Schools and College of Optometry (ASCO) developed OptomCAS to allow students to apply to all 23 schools and colleges of optometry through a single application service. OptomCAS allows optometry applicants to use a single web-based application and one set of materials to apply to multiple optometry schools and colleges. OptomCAS will not determine whether an applicant has met the optometry school or college requirements or is eligible for admission; this decision will be made by each respective school or college.
Letters of Recommendation
Applicants may provide the name and e-mail addresses of a maximum of 4 sources providing evaluations. The evaluation must be completed electronically by your evaluators.

Recommendations for Choosing an Evaluator:
- An optometrist who can state through documented experience that you know what the profession of optometry entails.
- A professor with whom you have done personal work (such as assisted on a specific project or served as a TA or reader), or with whom you took a course.
- An employer or extracurricular activity advisor who can comment about your maturity, diligence and conscientiousness.
Grade Point AVERAGE (GPA)
OptomCAS will calculate numerous GPAs. The GPAs and hours may be categorized by area of study, pre-requisites, science, or academic year.
OptomCAS will take the most recent grade received in a repeated course whether it is higher to lower than the first time it was taken. However, each optometry school is entitled to their own policies in that some institutions may replace a grade in course with a second grade only if taken at the same institution as your bachelor's degree and may average the multiple grades for multiple attempts at another institution.
